Miho Osawa

Born in Osaka. She graduated from the Toho Gakuen School of Music and the Master Course at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. She has studied piano under Akiko Hata, Fujiko Yamada, André de Groote, Yevgenia Braguinsky, and Lazar Berman.

She won the second prize at the 10th Sonoda Takahiro Prize Piano Competition and the Oita Governor’s Prize. She was chosen as a finalist at the 47th Busoni International Piano Competition (Italy) and won the “Busoni’s Work Prize,” as well as many other prizes at competitions in Japan and abroad. While studying in Brussels, she performed in Belgium and other European countries, and in 2001, she gave her debut recital at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Small Hall and started her performance activities in Japan. She has held recitals in a wide range of repertoire mainly in Tokyo and Kansai, as well as various special recitals such as “Nocturne et Chopin,” “Memories of the Belle Époque” (French music), “Chopin on Pleyel,” an “Chopin & Schumann 200 th Anniversary,” etc. In 2001, 2003, and 2005, she held recitals in various places in Belgium.

She has released the CDs Miho Osawa Plays Schumann and Miho Osawa Plays Chopin. Her recent recitals, which include a talk with commentary on the pieces, have been well received by audiences, leading them to a deeper understanding of the music. She also had chamber music concerts during the time of covid-19 and actively held online concerts, etc. In 2021, she held a recital to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her debut, and in June 2023, she opened a YouTube sub-channel, “Miho’s casual piano,” where she distributes one piece of non-classical music every week, and also held the postponed “Beethoven 250 th Anniversary Recital +3 years”.

In 2024, she will produce SACD and analog LP Miho Osawa Plays Debussy and crowdfund it in August. In addition, she plans to hold recitals in Osaka, Uonuma, and Tokyo in the fall to celebrate the CD and LP release. She is constantly striving to convey the spirit of composers and the appeal of their works to as many people as possible, and to give performances that will give them the strength to live in the present.
